Milestones - Kamats Group & Kamat Hotels (India) Ltd.

1958: Satkar was the first restaurant to be launched by the group, opposite Churchgate station in Mumbai. The success of Satkar and the increased demand for fast-food prompted the group to launch Samrat Restaurant at Churchgate in the year 1972 along with a host of other eateries and catering businesses in western India.  The group gained more visibility and strength with the opening of ‘Suvidha Restaurant’ at D.N. Road and ‘Suruchi Restaurant’ at New Marine Lines, Mumbai. With ‘Suruchi Restaurant and Bar’, the group further expanded its operations into the non-vegetarian restaurant category. 

1982: The group further consolidated its position in the family restaurant business with the opening of ‘Status’ and ‘Santoor’. After this, a chain of ‘Kamats Super Snacks’ was grown across India.

1986: The Company KAMAT HOTELS (INDIA) LIMITED was incorporated on 21st March 1986. It took over its first residential hotel in Vapi – Shalimar Hotel. The group had also purchased a Residential Hotel, ‘Hill Resort’ at Khandala. In the same year, Kamat Super Snacks also started its operations with 69 covers at Nana Chowk, Mumbai.

1988: Kamats built a 3 Star Hotel with 32 rooms in the first phase, with provision for 60 rooms at Silvassa.

1990: Kamats purchased a four-star property, ‘Plaza Hotel’ situated near Domestic Airport, Mumbai. The hotel was remodelled, and a Family Club with discotheque ‘Go Bananas’ was started.

1994: KHIL went public through an IPO. 

1996: Hotel Siddharth (Nasik), a 3-Star property with 32 rooms along with permit room was taken over under a management contract for 35 years. 

1997: The Orchid - An Ecotel Hotel is Asia’s first Eco-Friendly Five Star Hotel which was opened to the public on 27th September 1997. 

1998: Company also opened its 1st Resort Hotel In Goa with Lotus Resort Goa.

2001:The Company ventured abroad by opening two of its branches in San Francisco, USA, in the name of Vithal Kamat. The same year, the group also opened its second 4-Star hotel in Mumbai at Andheri of 195 keys.

2007: The company also opened its first & only Heritage Hotel of Maharashtra ‘Fort JadhavGadh’. 

2008: The Orchid Pune Balewadi was opened and expanded in a franchise in Odisha in Bhubaneshwar City.

2009: Mahodadhi Palace commenced its 1st phase of operations, and Lotus Konark was also opened.

2010: VITS Bhubaneswar commenced their operations. Orchid Mumbai Expansion commenced its operations in the same year. Mr Vithal Kamat, Honorable CMD won PATWA award at Berlin for his achievements in the Hospitality Industry.

2011: Kamat Restaurants Pvt Ltd; Kamat Holiday Resorts Pvt Ltd; Lotus Resorts Goa and a unit of Kamat Holiday Resorts (Silvassa) Ltd were merged into ‘Kamat Hotels (India) Ltd’ to grow the Company.

2014: Company increased its paid-up capital through preferential allotment.
